Types of Legal Vehicle

But what exactly makes a vehicle classified as commercial? Tow truck (HVAC § 615) – A tow truck is a motor vehicle that has been modified or designed and equipped and is primarily used for transporting vehicles by crane, hoist, towbar, tow cable or trolley, or otherwise used primarily to assist other vehicles. A “recoil carrier” designed to carry up to two vehicles is also a tow truck. A car dismantler`s tow truck is not a “tow truck”. To rename the vehicle, you need to work with the state that issued the unwanted certificate, unwanted title, or similar ownership document. In the United States, each state has the power to determine through laws and regulations what types of vehicles are allowed on public roads based on police power. Vehicles that are considered road-legal in the United States include cars, trucks, and motorcycles.  Some vehicles that are not typically sold for on-road use – such as all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and golf carts – may be adapted for road traffic if permitted by state law.   Simply put, this definition includes many types of vehicles: trucks, tractors, minivans, some pickup trucks, semi-trailers, buses and more.
According to the State of Texas, a commercial vehicle is defined as “an autonomous or towed vehicle, other than a farm vehicle with a gross weight, registered weight, or gross weight of less than 48,000 pounds, used on a highway to transport passengers or cargo.” This is true in one of three cases: the towing vehicle is defined in ORS 801.530.
